Brilliant passages

A home for the book passages we love and want to remember

This is a home for readers and writers and book lovers. It is dedicated to all the passages in our college paperbacks that we underlined and circled with hearts, the passages that make us laugh out loud when we’re paging through novels in a bookstore, the passages that hang in our consciousness like distant, beautiful stars, remembered but out of reach.

As avid readers, we dog-ear favorite passages in books, or highlight them in Kindles, but then they stay there, buried in pages or pink-lit digits, lost to the world. To keep track of them, and to share them with others, we created a home for those favorite passages we don’t want to slip away.

Each post will highlight a favorite passage from Gustav Flaubert or Richard Powers, Jess Walter or Alice Munro, and the Swedish bad boy, Carl Ove Knaussgaurd, among many others. For each passage we will designate a sobriquet: The Most Outrageous Mommy Tantrum; The Most Gorgeous Wedding Cake; The Best, Drunk, Richard Burton; The Most Witty Madame Curie.
